THE MOTH

I was just in NYC and for the second time saw The Moth. It's a format for simple story telling and people line up around the block to see it. I'm so impressed that even in this age when entertainment is so ready made and available, people are still allured by the power of a story. It's like sitting around a camp fire. Anyone visiting NYC or LA, should visit it and even try to tell a story.

MASTER CLASS, FILM ACTING TECHNIQUES, PRAGUE

Well it's finally time for me to teach again in my home town, Prague. There have been requests, so I've scheduled classes for 30-31 July.

The focus of the class will be different this time. Instead of focusing on casting technique, this time I will teach screen acting techniques in preparation for my classes at the Prague Film School that begins in the Fall. So if you can't enroll in the program, but want to take a crash course in film acting, this might be a good opportunity for you. For out of town actors who want to come to Prague, it's cheaper than when I teach in other European cities because I don't have my travel costs (only 140 EUR for two days.) Please see the following details, and thanks for your interest.

New Master Class

Screen Acting Technique

Casting Director, Nancy Bishop, C.S.A. offers a new on-camera master class taught in English for actors. New and returning students alike are welcome to attend this two day intensive course. Unlike previous workshops, this class will focus on screen acting techniques, rather than casting technique.

Day 1. Screen Acting Technique: Actors participate in a series of practical exercises that develop effective methods for screen acting. Material covered will include learning how to calibrate a performance for close-up vs. wide shot, playing an inner monologue, playing reaction shots and playing in the eyes.

Day 2. Strategies for Screen Casting. Actors will apply the techniques they learned on Day One to perform scenes from a variety of genres. The scenes, chosen from actual film scripts, will include a variety of genres ranging from historical drama, to action/thriller to sci-fi. Each participant will get one-on-one coaching in front of the camera with Nancy.

Time: 11:00AM – 5:30PM

Date: Thurs-Friday, 30-31 July, 2009

Place: Studio Storm, Biskupsky Dvur 4, Prague 1

Cost: 4,000Kc for two days, or 160 EUR

How to register: The class is limited to 14 participants so please register soon.

ANDREA CABAN DIALECT COACH

When I was in New York, I met a wonderful voice/dialect/movement coach. Andrea Caban. You can contact her at: andreacaban@yahoo.com.

To European actors I thought she would be most helpful as a dialect coach and she actually coaches on Skype. So you don't have to go to New York to get her services.

She is also a wonderful actress. See her work at: http://www.andreacaban.com/Welcome.html
